UED102 - STUDY SKILLS

Hi and Assalammualaikum to all my dearest readers. Welcome to my first ever blog! ðŸ™‹Before I start, let me introduce a little bit about myself as the writer for this blog.😊

My name is WAN SERI IRYSHA BINTI WAN AHMAD FARHAN. I am 18 years old. Currently, I was studying for program DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE (AS120)  in UiTM CAWANGAN PAHANG, KAMPUS JENGKA or well known as Kampus Khazanah Alam ðŸŒ². The distance between my house to the campus is 159.1km which usually takes 2 hours. By the way, I live in Selayang, Selangor.

As the student of part one, I was given a task during UED102 classes throughout the interim weeks. UED102 is a study skills course that every student of UiTM must take it. This course provides us as a student with learning skills essentials for varsity life.
In this class, the students learned about basic academic skills that being exposed by the lecturers.

Before the UED102 class start, we were divided into several groups and I was placed in group JK1F. The class was held at Dewan Kuliah 2 (DK2). There were two assessments that we must submit.

The first one which is a group work, we were asked to form a team of 10 members and prepare a creative video presentation of five interesting places in Kampus Jengka. Next is an individual assignment. The lecturer asks us to submit an e-portfolio about the study skills and that is! That is the objective of my blog, to share what I had learned in the class during the interim weeks.

So let's start it!

TOPIC 1: GETTING READY TO LEARN

DATE: 7th Aug 2019
VENUE: Dewan Kuliah 2

LECTURER: Sir Zul Adlan bin Mohd Hir
  • SCHOOL LIFE VS COLLEGE LIFE
We are diploma students. We all come from different places. But one thing for sure, we all are a high school student before. We all had to go through school life and now we become a college student. Therefore, college is a new phase of life to us. This is what my lecturer, Sir Zul had shared with us: the different of school life and college life.

Based on what I had shared here, it shows how different school life and college life are. What I want to highlight is, college life taught us to be more independent and discipline. We already growing up. Be matured enough to differentiate between the good thing and the bad one. Most of our parents live far away. They don't have at here to advice and take care of everything for us. We don't want to make them worried about us, right? So, make sure to do the best. Not to forget, even though life at school and college are different, there is also one similarity here. School and college are education place. So be ready to gain more knowledge at this new place!

  • CHARACTERISTICS OF SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS

Talk about being a student, I'm pretty sure everyone must have a desire to obtain something great in their life and that includes me too! Besides gaining knowledge, we as student enter the college with the hope to have a successful carrier in the future. But before we achieve that, we must be a successful student first. So that we can carry out proudly the certificate that we get from the college to applied job as we want.

Here are some of the characteristics of successful students that we can follow:

  • LEARNING STYLES
There are 3 learning styles that our lecturer shared with us:

🖉ACTIVITY🖉: LEARNING STYLES INVENTORY

MY RESULT :
VISUAL STYLE IS MY HIGHEST SCORE!

💥SUMMARY:-
My highest score based on the inventory result above is on VISUAL LEARNING STYLE! ðŸ‘€ That means I am a visual learner. I can easily understand something by visualizing it in my head. As an example, when I read about one of the science processes, I usually imagine it in my head. So that I can learn it more effectively.

Based on my lecturer, the visual learners have strong visualization skills and can remember objects, shapes and pictures. This learner can see pictures in their mind.

TOPIC 2: GOAL SETTINGS

DATE: 7th Aug 2019
VENUE: Dewan Kuliah 2

LECTURER: Sir Zul Adlan bin Mohd Hir

This is our second topic. A goal. When I was a child, a goal for me is that 'football goal'. It because I don't know the specific meaning of the word 'goal' since I have none before. Now, when I have grown up, I have several types of goals that I want to achieve.

  • WHAT IS 'GOAL'?
    • Goals are the ends toward which we direct our effortIn other words, goals are things we want to achieve.
    • Goals are very important in this new phase of life because they can help motivate you to do work, attend classes and study for exams.
    • A life without any goal will make us become lost because it just an empty life without no direction.

    • 5 STRATEGIES (STUDY SYSTEM)

    • PROCRASTINATION

To be honest, this is my first time hearing the word 'procrastination'. But I'm pretty sure the 'procrastination' behavior is not rare among us. Let me share with you guys what is 'procrastination' mean:

Based on my lecturer, the procrastination is the act of putting off intentionally the doing of something that should be done or in other words, it was the behavior of delaying the work that should be done.

If we keep postponing our task, we will feel the stress of doing work at the last minute. This will make the quality of work become low.
    • HOW TO MANAGE TIME?
      • We should learn to prioritize thing that important
      • In this technology era, we can create a time management system using the application tools on our smartphone. As an example, using the calendar app, to set up important dates.
      • We must get rid of any source of distractions that will make us become unfocus doing something important.
